2. Windows inside of windows.

Ivory does this, probably others, where Alt text pops up over the image and cannot be moved. It’s fast, but annoying, to toggle the text off/on to take in whole photo while reading the ALT. Maybe trying to save space for smaller screens, but I have giant monitor and want to enjoy people's photos without constantly toggling ALT.

Apple's quicktime player does this with the player control. You can move it, but only within the confines of the video window, it stays visible until you move mouse out of the window. If you have multiple windows the one mouse is over shows a player, even if it isn't frontmost (i.e. hitting space will not start playback for that window even though it shows controls).

Mac (maybe others) UI features that should go away, a small thread.

1. Little popups that disappear when you switch to another app. Trying to get camera settings for ALT text and have to memorize/toggle back and forth because Apple photos hides the popup when I leave photos app. Quicktime does this with “Movie Inspector” popup.

1 year ago I switched from Mac to Linux for professional UX design work. In this article, I explain as simply as possible:
- Why I switched to Linux
- How you can do the same.

I cover design-specific concerns like:
- How to use Apple devices like the Magic Mouse in Linux
- Which design tools are available and how to install them
- How to find help if you get stuck
