Johanna<p>Finished painting my homemade Carcassonne meeples! A multi-year project. Found some nice varnish based paints for miniatures that had colors close enough to what I had in mind. cybervegan<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.art/@inkscape" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>inkscape</span></a></span> I'm writing an Inkscape extension using Python Inkex, and I need to know if the contour of two vectors overlap. I'm very much a beginner with Inkex, so I've been using the bounding boxes so far, and it works after a fashion, but of course this produces weird results when a smaller shape is within the bounding-box of a larger shape, but they don't actually overlap. So I need to work out if they really DO overlap, so I can then deal with them appropriately. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to either ascertain if two vectors overlap via the API, or short of that, how to get a raster of pixels of a vector rendered (at any resolution) so I can convert that to a set, and can then check for intersection? </p><p>Sorry, I don't even know if this question makes sense, so for context, I'm trying to change the z-order of shapes that are enclosed by larger shapes so that they are lower than the enclosing shape(s), because I use Inkscape to design SVGs for <a href="https://autistics.life/tags/LaserCutting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaserCutting</span></a>, and you need to cut internal vectors before their enclosing vectors. Lasers on laser cutters have a focal length, and you have to set the focus before you cut; when the laser has completed a closed cut, the material is apt to drop down by a few millimetres, and the laser is then no longer focused properly on it, so any internal vectors cut after this has happened will be out of focus and may not cut through properly.</p>

Cassian [main]<p>Someone at our makerspace is struggling with the laser cutter, and it's a problem I've never run into before, I've never seen anything like it - so I thought I'd ask here and check if anyone has any clues.</p><p>They're trying to make boxes using this box generator: <a href="https://boxes.hackerspace-bamberg.de" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">boxes.hackerspace-bamberg.de</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> The box shapes export as SVGs.</p><p>The laser cutter is a HPC LS3060 with 50W CO2 laser, connected to the makerspace laptop with a USB cable.</p><p>And the laser cutter software is Lightburn on Windows. The files end in ".lbrn2".</p><p>Basically, everything looks perfect in Lightburn, including in preview. But when they go to cut, even when each individual shape is in a different layer, the laser will put extra cuts in or randomly move off at a strange angle and make cuts that aren't in the Lightburn file. (See photos of errors attached.)</p><p>Have you ever seen anything like this? If so, did you ever work out the cause?</p><p>Edit: FIXED! We emailed the people who sold us the laser cutter, and they suggested we check whether our makerspace member was "streaming" the cutting from the laptop with the controls in Lightburn, or if they were sending the file to the laser cutter first and then directly cutting from the laser cutter UI. The member was "streaming" it from the laptop (pressing "start" in Lightburn on the laptop), which apparently can cause these kinds of problems. Andrew D. Hwang<p>Laser-cut aluminum struts for a 6.5-inch version of "Pulse" arrived. There was some hope of selling user-built kits, but it turns out aluminum is harder to assemble than fiberboard, and does not hold together by friction. Occasionally <a href="https://autistics.life/tags/dabble" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dabble</span></a> in <a href="https://autistics.life/tags/Electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Electronics</span></a>; hack wood and metal and electronic gadgets.</p><p>Music-wise, I'm predominantly into grunge, punk, dub, with a bit of psytrance and electronica on the side.</p><p>I love <a href="https://autistics.life/tags/Art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Art</span></a> especially amateur/small scale artists. Occasionally try to do my own, in Acrylic paint, or lately wood.</p><p>Don't watch TV or netflicks, but I *do* watch some YouTube and PeerTube channels but don't "follow" any.</p><p>I think that covers most of it. I hope nobody objects to the hashtag soup!</p>
