#US / EPA staffers condemn US-Israel partnership, demand climate funds release amid Gaza genocide

#EPA and Department of Energy staffers are demanding an end to US collaboration with #Israel, citing the ongoing siege and genocide in Gaza. They also demand the release of $50 million in federal funds to the Climate Justice Alliance, which were delayed after the group supported a ceasefire in #Gaza.

The staffers' letter highlights the hypocrisy of prioritizing environmental justice domestically while funding projects that contribute to the destruction of Palestinian communities and ecosystems. This comes as President Biden, despite a progressive climate platform, has failed to deliver on various climate promises and opened federal lands for oil and gas extraction. Progressive members of Congress, including

Senator Markey and Representatives Ocasio-Cortez and Stansbury, have also urged #Biden to release the funds.

"We always knew the US would support the Israeli policy, but the Israeli govt was willing to walk a tightrope in which at least the US.. would not look so weak to its Arab allies or to its enemies in the region.

"And now I think the US is struggling to put back its relationship with Israel in the old box & to appear to the region to be in charge."

#Gaza / U.S. to again ship 500-pound bombs to Israel, reversing suspension

The U.S. is sending 500-pound bombs to Israel again, after previously holding them back. This comes after #Israel and its supporters in the U.S. pushed hard for the shipments to resume.

[…] Janet Abou-Elias, a research fellow at the Center for International Policy, a Washington-based think tank, said the destructive power of 500-pound bombs should not be taken lightly. “In Gaza’s densely populated areas, the difference in the destructive impact between a 500-pound and a 2,000-pound bomb is negligible, both causing immense destruction and civilian casualties,” she said.
