63°F and it's like a different world out there. Hung winter bikes in garage rafters and got out the warm weather bikes. Took kid on a ride with his new bike (priortiy continuum onyx), which has a CVT. As you twist the "shifter" it just steadily gets easier or harder to pedal and this cute little stretchy indicator changes to show it.

Basket of old AA bike lights for $10. Now checking them out. Will need straps, but I wonder if I can get away with using old rubber tubes somehow. Will load them with AA's and attempt to give them away to cyclists riding by on the dark with no lights. #BikeTooter

Back to reality. We had plummeting temperatures and increasing wind, so I went out before it could get worse. I rode my #ebike to Silver Lake and then Cascade Lake to see what our record warmth yesterday did to the lake ice, and the ice is completely gone. But the ride wasn't comfortable, as there was rain, then sleet, then light snow, and by the end my hands and feet were cold.
I think I'll just stay in and watch hockey this afternoon.

Ugh, that was a long one! But that’s what weekends are for. The Oak Leaf Train/Menomonee Parkway near me is awesome.
I just had a really nice twilight bike ride to the library and back:
- I found books I'd been looking for, shelved in "Young Adult", which explained why I could see them online in the catalogue, but never find them irl.
- the moon was huge and red
- there was a lovely gentle warm breeze all the way
Them: But Ruarí, how will you get rid of that old mattress and other crap? You don't own a car!
Me: Ha… You think I need a car? How cute!

@ai6yr It’s a shame our town Thousand Oaks is literally at the doorstep to the Santa Monica MTNS with thousands of bikers using the surrounding roads and trail systems annually. One would think it could almost be a destination and in being so, would definitely benefit in a much more bike friendly city. Sabotage!! #biketooter

Random things, but it sounds like the paid for, approved Class IV bicycle lane our city was going to install is "on hold". They are blaming a new owner of the mall, but they mentioned it also was because the traffic engineer's "demonstration project" to super cone a lane to "show what the bicycle lane would be like" generated 700+ negative comments from drivers, "the most negative comment the city has ever seen"... so they are "rethinking" things. I think the traffic engineer KNEW this would happen and thus they decided to run the "demonstration", knowing it would kill the project. Sabotage...

Random bicycle policy tidbit: the traffic planners here were bemoaning the fact they can no longer just put a "sharrow" anywhere to fix lack of bicycle lanes, apparently there's some requirement now that a traffic study and speeds meet specific requirement. (good, actually, because some sharrows are really "suicide by bicycle lane" here). I suspect some California law... #sharrows #BikeTooter
