Ride Theory<p>Chain on my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ebike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ebike</span></a> broke today.</p>
Marty Cormack<p><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/BikeStreak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BikeStreak</span></a> Day 71:<br>Back to reality. We had plummeting temperatures and increasing wind, so I went out before it could get worse. I rode my <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/ebike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ebike</span></a> to Silver Lake and then Cascade Lake to see what our record warmth yesterday did to the lake ice, and the ice is completely gone. But the ride wasn't comfortable, as there was rain, then sleet, then light snow, and by the end my hands and feet were cold.<br>I think I'll just stay in and watch hockey this afternoon.<br><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a></p>
Ride Theory<p>Today marks the 5th anniversary of me riding an <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ebike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ebike</span></a>.</p><p>I have ridden 18,173 miles (29,246 km), which is equal to 73% of the diameter of the Earth. At my current rate, I should reach 100% in 2026.</p><p>I typically ride about 6 out of 7 days a week, though this year's average dipped to 5.7 days a week recently because I needed a new battery.</p><p>My average ride is 55 minutes, 9.5 miles (15 km), which is factoring in days I don't ride. A typical ride is a bit over 60 minutes, and a bit over 10 miles.</p>

Do you have to be older than 16 to ride en ebike? The 16 year old limit certainly applies to scooters and anything throttle controlled, but pedal assisted ebikes are explicitly not e-rideables. All the sites I have found with info seem to be conflating the two.<br>So... is there an age requirement for riding a pedal assisted e-bike in Western Australia? <a href="https://aus.social/tags/law" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>law</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cycling</span></a></p>

Judeau (EatTheRich)<p>Yesterday was a beautiful day. It's the first day in several weeks that I've been able to take my e-bike out for a long ride. I was out for several hours, mostly sticking to the bicycle path and areas just off of it.</p><p>The sun was shining and it was such a nice temperature that it did not even occur to me that I should probably put on some sunblock. I got burned a little bit but not too bad. </p><p>Regardless, it was fun and worth it. 😁</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/Ebike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ebike</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Tulsa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tulsa</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cycling</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Biking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Biking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Bicycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Bicycling</span></a></p>
James<p>Since I brought my bike charger with me, I decided to leave the pedal assist on for my whole ride. A lot of trails and bike paths, and I get to ride along the National Mall.</p><p><a href="https://woof.group/tags/bikecommute" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bikecommute</span></a> <a href="https://woof.group/tags/ebike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ebike</span></a></p>

The wind was favorable on the way out, and with 20F (-7C) and sunny skies, it was pleasant. But with dropping temperatures and facing a stiff wind, the ride home was less so. But that stiff wind is from the South meaning warmer air is on the way.
