“WEIRD AL” YANKOVIC
Dare To Be Stupid
1985 Canada pressing
My Sunday is about to get very weird and very stupid.
Weird Al is a king among peasants. He will always be celebrated in my house for the genius he is, and I will tolerate NO slander or shit talk about the greatest poet laureate of our time.
This week’s #DrDavesLyricChallenge is a song from 1986, but is actually a cover version of a soul ballad released in 1968. #80s #80smusic #Forgotten80s
Didn't I say all those lovin' special things that you long to hear?
To show how much I care
RICK SPRINGFIELD
Don't Talk To Strangers
1982 U.S. 7” single
Back when we were all growing up in the #80s , two older teenage sisters LOVED The Ricker.
I did not share their enthusiasm. To this day, I’d rather stick flaming knives into my eyes than hear “Jessie’s Girl” ever again.
However, THIS SONG…
This song I always liked. I always appreciated it’s Jackson Browne-y type vibe, and my urge to kill is non existent when it’s on, unlike other RS songs.

40 years ago today, “Doctor in Distress” (1985), the single from Who Cares? was released. It is considered the worst charity single ever. Recorded to save Doctor Who from possible cancellation, proceeds were intended go to the charity Cancer Research. Sales were so poor that it failed to recover expenses. #80s #80smusic #DoctorWho
Pure 80's banger with an absolutely atrociously terrible video.
Here's Bonnie Tyler....
This week’s #80sSoundtrackSaturday is Dan Hartman with “Waiting to See You” (1986) from the Ruthless People #soundtrack. #80s #80smusic #80smovie #DanHartman

Call me a big huge nerd, but I love how-it’s-made videos. And I especially love videos showing vinyl records being pressed. And I especially, especially love a video showing our new 80s kids album being pressed! Eeeeeee!
We just got this video from Waxwork Records, where earlier this week that Pac-Man splatter design that we dreamed up came to life. Can you even believe how cool this is??

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Tunnel Of Love
1987 Canada pressing
Another week gone.
Music time.
Bruce’s divorce album, with a ton of synths & drum machines.
I was 10 years old when this came out. I had heard of him and was quite aware of his music, but this was the first album of his that spoke to ME.
I remember the first time hearing “Brilliant Disguise” and thinking “That’s a great song.”
This is still my favorite Springsteen album all these years later.

RICK JAMES
Street Songs

Last spin of the night.
SO.
MUCH.
COCAINE.
It’s a hell of a drug.
PARIS WORKING
The Paris Working
1983 U.S. pressing
A blind gamble that paid off handsomely.
A short, but excellent #synthpop / #newwave listen.
These 5 songs were their ONLY songs, as it appears this was their only release.
A pretty obscure but fantastic little E.P. for fans of the genre.
The guitar work on “Pieces Of Heaven” is really great, and sounds like it could have been in an #80s John Hughes movie.

SAMANTHA FOX
Touch Me (I Want Your Body)
1986 Canada 12” E.P.
She had great personality (cups invisible breasts with hands), & a great sense of humour (cups invisible ass with hands).
I have my older sister to thank for my Fox obsession, both musically (just the first album), & as my first sexual fantasy.
I understand she would have never been allowed near a studio if she looked like Walter Matthau.
Apparently, she’s a lesbian now.
And 60!
