your Anhinga pic the other day brought back a memory of 1985 when my hubby saw an Anhinga swimming beside our flatboat in Irish Bayou-- he shrieked, "That snake has a beak!"

i don't think i have any photos of our local Anhingas, so have some African Darters I met in Senegal last spring when I was trying to learn how to use my camera & find birds at the same time

The Pacific reef heron, also known as the Eastern reef heron or Eastern reef egret, is a medium-sized heron with a unique appearance. It exhibits two distinct colour morphs: a dark morph, which is predominantly gray, and a light morph, which is entirely white. Both morphs have short, yellow legs, a brown bill, and yellow eyes. 🌎 Whistling heron (Syrigma sibilatrix)

The Whistling heron is a medium-sized heron of South America. They are found in seasonally flooded savanna, but also in any suitable waterlogged terrain, most importantly with some tree cover to roost in. Predominantly grey birds, their crowns and crests are most often black and the upper wing coverts are cinnamon-colored. Their bills are pink with blue to violet at the base, merging with likewise-coloured bare skin around the eyes. Their legs are greenish-grey and relatively short. Two subspecies are recognised.

Wrestling with the catfish. This cormorant had to work hard until it could finally swallow the fish whole - you can very clearly see it in the third photo. Looked almost like when a comic character eats something.
