Just watched #TheNet again on an alternative streaming channel & I'll raise my rating of it from a 6 to a 7.

It has been so long since last saw the movie that everything was new to me again and, although the technical aspects of the movie were implausible, even then, the movie kept me entertained & interested to see how Bullock's character was going to avoid getting killed by the evidently incompetent assassin & get out of the mess she was in.

I liked that they shot the ending in San Francisco & was pleased with myself knowing that she could not run from the 200 block of California St to Moscone Center so quickly.

The movie also uses various ploys that I found interesting because they are still in use in movies now, like waiting for a file to be saved/transmitted to increase tension in the film, as was done in #MissionImpossible (1996) & catwalk chases, as was done in #TheInferno (2016).

So, I'd call this an under-rated & under-appreciated film that deserves more credit that it has received.

And, it’s a step closer. I wonder if this is a good or bad thing for Star Trek (and the Mission: Impossible franchise).

I have Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One playing right now while I get stuff done. I realized that this series' runtime has been getting longer and longer since it started. Then I was thinking about another long running action movie series, John Wick and how that got longer and longer over time.

Action film runtimes are getting a bit out of hand. I miss the days of 90 minute action films. The first John Wick was 100 minutes long, it was pure, it was focused, it was exhilarating. The same can be said about the first Mission: Impossible film that ran 110 minutes.

The John Wick films have held up better with their increased runtimes. Mission: Impossible? Not so much. Not only does the latest one have a bloated title, the story is similarly bloated -- and for 163 minutes, it only tells half the story.

So, I ask for your thoughts: Are the large increases in runtime (48% for Mission: Impossible and 67% for John Wick) worth it? Do action movies really need to run two hours and 43 minutes (the latest Mission: Impossible film) or two hours and 49 minutes (the latest John Wick film)? Do you miss the simplicity of a 90-minute action flick?
