I dont understand how any of these propositions will benefit anyone. Competition is about letting consumers choose freely. Google has a monopoly because they lock down consumers. Just bar them from locking down products and let everyone compete to be the best for the consumers! Like they did with Internet Explorer! mastodon.social/@verge/1135563

Chrome on desktop has its market share because people think it's the best browser, not because of a lockdown, or a default app. I disagree, but if there's one place Google didn't compete unfairly, it's with their browser. Now forcing to use only Google services inside Chrome should not be allowed. Users should be able to change the default search engine in Chrome, just like I should be able to install whatever I want on my iPhone. (1/2)

Sure I hate that Chrome has such a big market share, but putting it for sale won't change Google's search monopoly, will probably give an unfair advantage to those who will buy it, and can't function as a separate company. Same with access to search data, it will make things worse. Google shouldn't be able to collect all that data in the first place. Let's not make it available to all the worst companies in the world. @NadCee the way I look at it it's more about the ad monopoly than the search - google the advertising company has steadily converted the browser into a captive ad delivery system at the expense of both the browser, and the search.

@cms Sure, but again, the problem is the locking down and the data collection. Both of which should be illegal after a certain point. We should keep using a company's products because we want to, not because we're forced to. And data collection is always risky. Up till now it seems Google has protected that data pretty well, but if the government itself pushes to distribute it, it's even worse than a data leak, or a data broker buying that data.
