Fun fact: One of the main reasons I started on this journey of reimagining our front and back yard was because mowing the lawn felt utterly stupid and pointless. Especially the front yard which is why I made the ponds and gardens there during the pandemic. Progress! We have to clear out everything to the right of the garden boxes so that we can lift almost all the grass, dig a trench for power and water to the shed, and dig the three holes for the pool-pond, pond filter, and intake bay next Saturday!

This is step... 3? (after the side path and the tool locker under the deck) of a much larger backyard project that will see the end of our old shed, the building of a new (large)greenhouse/(small)car workshop, and... a natural pool with bog style filter! Are we having fun yet? This picture is actually kind of depressing as it’s almost impossible to see the 2-5inch depth of what has been dug from the right. At least it’s only 25°C and I am not overheating. But a break is in order.

Pre-high-noon-heat yard work is done for the day. Managed to finish spreading rock for the landing under the deck. Got another load (700kg!) of rock from the concrete place. Shoveled some of that around, then took a break, had some food, and just now did 30 final minutes in the 32°C+ heat digging out the pad for the small metal shed.
33.9°C on the yard station (@alberniweather)when I walked in the door at 1PM!

Needed to cut back some massively overgrown "ground cover" creeping juniper (that is way too big for the spot, but that's another story.) About 45 feet of it overhanging the boulder retaining wall.
Am still vertical, but barely. It was a lot more work than it appears. I like those rocks, and the juniper will creep again...
We did some yard work on Sunday which included clearing out some nasty blackberry bushes from where they had taken over a chunk of space. One large branch scraped my face as I pulled it away. I think I just now scratched/picked a small thorn that was still embedded in my cheek.
Evil, tasty, beasts.

It is another stormy morning in West Central Louisiana. Thunder rumbles and lightning flashes. This is just the beginning.
A while back, I decided to hire out to do some of the things around the yard that I've traditionally done myself. Except for mowing the lawn, that I will continue to do; it is very relaxing to ride around on the lawn mower. The problem I've been having with the hire out process is that I live in a relatively small town and finding somebody to do the work is difficult. I've hired through Angi a few times, but the last time used Angi was to hire somebody to pull weeds from around the house the person was a no-show - I still did it myself.

I laid this stone paver path yesterday. It's almost done, just a few more stones to set.
It's more work than it seems at first because you have to cut out the grass in the shape of the stone and then work each stone so it's flat and sturdy.
Got grass?
I figured it up and turns out I have pushed that gas powered mower on the right the equivalent of almost two trips to the moon and back.
The mower on the left is battery powered. I bought that one since I already have 2 #Stihl AP-300 batteries and the charger (for chainsaws). If I was starting from scratch maybe I would have got a different make/model battery powered mower - don’t know.
And now a word from the arm that has been pulling the starting cord ’lo these many years - Hallelujah!
