Started reading a book about housework tonight, and I'm hooked.

I ordered it for myself because my partner and I needed a reference for things like when to use vinegar and when not to, and how often should you really do x or y thing.

There's a whole section on microbes, and she explains what different fabrics are best at, and there's a chapter on accident prevention. And a guide to looking after wood floors, which is good because they weren't common when I was growing up and I don't know what they need.

The author is a lawyer and philosophy lecture, who basically has a special interest in housekeeping. The best.

It's called Home Comforts: the art and science of keeping house, by Cheryl Mendelson

Alright mastodon, hit me with your best knowledge:

What is the most effective, fastest toilet bowl cleaner you got? I got scrubbers, they only work ok, and they RUST.

I got those blue/bleach top tank thingies, I can't even tell if they help. They leave blue streaks and there's still gunk from the top of the bowl water holes.

I tried those stick-on gel things, also didn't seem to do much. And even manual work with a sponge and cleaner isn't perfect

Ok, I decided I needed to do SOMETHING. So I made Slug get up & get some laundry together & hauled 4 loads to the laundry room. Came back, made her get up again & get her bedroom & bathroom trash together. She's "faint & dizzy" from the exertion of that, but I'm the one who actually hauled the shit. (2 full cart trips) Brownies just came out of the oven. I have 50 minutes before I have to go back for the stuff in the dryer.
