Saturday was Long Covid Awareness Day. As we suffer through the fifth year of the pandemic, thousands are becoming disabled by this illness. I'll have more on the topic soon.
This morning there are lots of responses to Labour's proposed cuts to disability benefits, here are just two:
1. As Anna Landre argues, what the Govt. actually needs to do is: 'ask disabled people who want to work what keeps them from doing so & construct targeted policies to address those barriers'...
rather than just assume they know the answers & can make disabled people's decisions about support for them.

Now this is the kind of performance art we need!
A woman who uses a wheelchair, together with two friends who dressed up as #Trump and #Musk, demonstrated at the Georgia Capitol in a performance they called "Walk the Doge." She not only wanted to ridicule them, she wanted to remind everyone that we the people are really the ones with power. We must remember that and stand for the rights of people with disabilities.

For a few years I kept wondering how to explain the #hacker approach to #technology - most people don't understand why modify what's already working?
I realized I need to show someone for whom the technology is not working - a person with a #disability , someone who chooses to modify their tools to fit them instead of modifying their own body to fit the tech.
I'm talking about #narrative s like this.

The Trump regime deported a kidney transplant specialist and professor at Brown University, despite the fact that she had a valid visa.
Transplant specialists are one of the most in demand and difficult specialty. They can’t be easily replaced.
The cruelty is the point.
Perhaps most alarming is the fact that a court order was issued to prevent her deportation, and she was deported anyway.
Trump and his cronies are actively defying court orders. They’re acting outside the law.
The billionaire oligarch who bought the Presidency spends his days on X calling for the arrest and removal of judges who try and block Trump from doing whatever he wants.
This is fascism. The courts are a necessary part of the checks and balances that keep a democracy functioning.
The US is rapidly running out of time to save their democracy.
Stand up. Speak out. Protest. Divest from businesses run by Trump and Musk. Vote with your dollar. Resist in whatever way you can.
Do not go gently.
