Since I brought my bike charger with me, I decided to leave the pedal assist on for my whole ride. With that, I managed to shave off about 20 minutes on my ride into the office this morning.

For how long this ride is, it's pretty enjoyable! A lot of trails and bike paths, and I get to ride along the National Mall.

This past week on my commute there has been someone writing homophobic and fascist stuff, so I've been covering it up. This is not to pat myself on the back, but to share how easy it is to carry a can of spray paint with you to make sure those things get covered as quickly as possible so that they know we are there to hold the line. Fascism is persistent, so we must be persistent as well.

@ascentale @uxmark A2: Other reasons include getting of the decaying subway when I lived in NYC & finding a time-effective way to fit regular exercise in my life by #BikeCommute -ing. And then that turned into being social on bikes, so it made up a lot of my leisure & friend group.

Also — bikes are a convivial tool & pro-social, whereas driving & it’s superstructures are fundamentally & unavoidably anti-social. #BikeNite

Bike commute: I feel sorry for the little bugs hovering on-station doing their little buggy business and then I come out of nowhere with my blazing headlight and plough into them.

The moths that flitter crazily on my front wheel for 20+ meters and then smack into my face… not so much.

I just found this, which underscores how NZ towns and cities are currently a bit broken.

"A 2016 study conducted by AUT concluded that 96 per cent of children would prefer to walk or cycle to school; however, data from the Ministry of Transport shows that the number of 5–12-year-olds walking to school decreased from 42 per cent in 1989 to 29 per cent in 2014."
