So, I may have set myself up poorly for #VGMWednesday by keeping the weekly theme "stuff I played since last week."
My original plan for this week was to find something I jam with from Kitsune Tails. But I will be honest, the music hasn't been at the forefront of my mind. The game is fantastic, by the way. But that is a talk for another toot.
So, for this week, I found something from Mickey Mania on the #SNES
This feels like it should have waited until October. Alas, I played the game at the weekend. But, let's be fair. The start of 2025 has been pretty scary so far.
The track 『Castle of Terror』is a bit more spoop than scare. I can see some skeletons dancing to this, especially those Glockenspeil-y little percussion bits. (Look at me pretending I know stuff about music and instruments!).
It is a fun and appropriately spoopy little background track to the Mad Doctor stages.

Donald Duck is really weird in his early appearances in the Mickey Mouse comic strip. Not only is he yellow, but he's often treated like he's much younger than the other characters, possibly a child. He even lives with a dog-face who Donald calls his "uncle."
Well it's been over a year since the copyright on Mickey Mouse/Steamboat Willie expired, and it has been a big ole nothing burger. Disney doesn't care, nobody cares. No significant new work of creativity using the character has gained any particular funding or attention.
Are people still scared that Disney will find some excuse to sue them out of existence? Or is there an underlying idea of "plagarism" that goes beyond copyright? Maybe folks don't want to make new Steamboat Willie cartoons because there's nothing new or exciting to be seen there.
