With the Republican hostility towards environmental regulations and regulatory bodies I feel like reminding people why the environmental protection agency exists to begin with.
That thing that's on fire here is a river, which caught fire the year before the founding of the #EPA due to heavy pollution. #environmentalprotectionagency #environment #CuyahogaRiver #Cleveland #ohio
This feels like a momentum shift for #Cleveland.

Today I had the incredible privilege to tour CentroVilla25, a decades-long dream come true for a Latino market hall and plaza in #Cleveland's Clark-Fulton neighborhood. When it opens around December, it will host dozens of food/retail businesses and immediately become the anchor of La Villa Hispana! The San Juan inspired facade is pure joy
The @therhizomehouse in #Cleveland is celebrating two years of being open!
"Early in August, neighborhoods across Cleveland were impacted by five EF-1 tornadoes which left 300,000 people without electricity regionally, including residents of the 22-story public housing complex Willson Tower. With 64 family units lacking electricity, sewage, and running water, Suncere, his neighbors, community members, and Mutual Aid Disaster Relief showed up for each other in big ways, helping each other survive, and sharing food, water, flashlights, solar chargers, battery banks, and intangible things like emotional first aid and other necessities until the lights, water and elevator access were restored, and, what began as a disaster, quickly evolved into a beautiful exercise in solidarity."

last night's hot #BobDylan action outside #cleveland: j. mellencamp included "all along the watchtower" in his opening set so, obviously, dylan performed it for the first time since 2018. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fz5LyVabMWJlYsMiG72V4M4R1l3_emtoY2byI0nqPg4/edit

No, but if the parents insist, go ahead and pay them for the food. Then, instruct your son to find the master bathroom in their house and take a big ol’ rancid dump in there. State law requires public restroom facilities in restaurants, so if they want to charge for food, they’ll need to accommodate.
Saw these gorgeous skies and sunset hitting the side of
Cleveland's Tower City but only had my 85mm with me. So I took a 94 photo panorama. Now I have a 414 megapixel photo if anyone needs a 30 foot print of this.
Suncere, who IGD talked with in the past about the history of Common Ground, a mutual aid center formed in the wake of Katrina in #NewOrleans, is in need of support following a major storm.
Help this mutual aid organizer!
LOL
The Browns want the public to build them a new stadium?
This is the last team that should be demanding the public build them a new playground.
Emergency preparedness folks might find it helpful to see whats going on in the Cleveland, OH area. Massive wind storms came through and knocked out power for 300k people, many of which still don't have power 3 days later. Cleveland reddit has some good info, esp how places with power are setting up power stations for people to come charge their devices and what is not working (cell phones, cable modems etc..) due to the power outage and damage to wires. https://www.reddit.com/r/Cleveland/ #cert #cleveland
At 09:35 ET Wednesday, 337,496 customers are without power in Ohio following yesterday's severe storms that swept through the #Cleveland area with wind gusts to 138 km/h reported.

In #Cleveland, via @cleveland.palestine:
"Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department attacks county residents.
After Palestine protestors disrupted the county meeting to demand that Cuyahoga County halt all foreign investments into Israel bonds multiple police officers attacked residents by pushing and choking them.
Officers can be seen quickly turning and assaulting a young woman who was simply doing media on her phone."
#PyOhio is a joy and in the heart of a lovely city with a lovely view. #Cleveland is great to be in, and we wanted to take a moment to thank the Python Software Foundation for their grant!
The @ThePSF mission is to promote, protect, and advance the Python programming language, and to support and facilitate the growth of a diverse and international community of Python programmers. Their support helps make regional conferences possible, and helps us highlight our amazing #Python #Community
In a #Cleveland suburb, this old #CoalPlant will soon be replaced by a massive #SolarFarm
Inside Climate News
July 26, 2024
"#CoalFired power plant that started running more than a century ago is about to get a long-overdue retirement, and its electricity will be replaced by a solar farm and a #BatteryStorage system on an existing #brownfield.
"The project in #PainesvilleOhio, a suburb of Cleveland, is one of about two dozen clean energy and emissions-reduction initiatives across the country that are sharing $4.3 billion in funding announced on Monday by the #BidenAdministration.
"It was a happy day for Doug Lewis, Painesville’s city manager. He and his colleagues have been considering how to close the city-owned power plant and replace it with a cleaner alternative. They also have wanted to redevelop the site of a long-shuttered #chemical factory near the shores of Lake Erie.
"The federal government will now pay about $80 million to install solar and batteries on the former factory land and to beautify the rest of the brownfield by planting a #meadow of #wildflowers and constructing a #BikeTrail. The trail will provide a connection between Painesville and a regional trail that runs along the lake.
[...]
"The solar farm will have capacity of 35 megawatts and the battery storage system will have capacity of 10 megawatts. It will be capable of running for three hours at that level before recharging.
"The new construction will be on land that once was home to the Diamond Shamrock Corp. chemical plant, which operated there from 1912 to 1977 and occupied about 1,100 acres. The plant’s products included baking soda, chromium compounds, and hydrochloric and sulfuric acids.
"Since the site closed, the community and the federal government have gone through the slow and trying process of removing #pollutants to make it site safe for redevelopment.
The current project can serve as a case study for many things, including regional cooperation. Painesville, in Lake County, worked with officials in neighboring Cuyahoga County and the Cleveland city government to file an application with the federal government that included #RenewableEnergy projects for all of them."
